What Is the Dukan Diet, and How Does It Work?
The Dukan Diet is a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that was developed by French physician and nutritionist Pierre Dukan. It is a popular weight-loss plan that is claimed to help dieters lose weight quickly and maintain their desired weight. Dukan Diet his a low-carb, high-protein diet.
Dukan’s diet involves eating foods that burn fat while causing no hunger pangs. These foods are high in protein, complex carbs, and low fat dairy products. You should avoid simple carbs and processed foods. Also try to cut out bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, sugary drinks, sweets, and cakes. Instead, choose lean meats, fish, poultry, beans, eggs, and legumes. Foods containing natural sweeteners, like honey, maple syrup, dates, bananas, and apples, are allowed. Red meat should be eaten less than once a week.
Why is the diet effective?
Dr. Dukan claims that although the calorie intake is lower, the body burns more calories due to the increased activity caused by the diet. Since the brain uses about 20% of the body’s energy, Dukan believes that the diet increases mental alertness and motivation. He says that the increased blood flow is good for the skin, nails, and hair and can help prevent wrinkles and stretch marks. It also helps maintain bone density.

Knowledge Panel
The Dukan Diet is a high–protein, low–carbohydrate diet designed to assist with weight loss. It was developed by French nutritionist Pierre Dukan and was first introduced in 2000. The diet consists of four phases. The first phase is a strict high-protein phase, where the individual is allowed to eat only lean protein, such as eggs, fish, poultry, and non-fat dairy products. The second phase is a reintroduction of vegetables and fruits, and the third phase is a reintroduction of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. The fourth and final phase is the maintenance phase, where the individual is encouraged to consume a balanced diet while maintaining their desired weight. The diet also encourages physical activity, such as walking, swimming, and jogging.
The Cruise phase.
Overall, the Cruise phase of the Dukan Diet is designed to help dieters lose weight and keep the weight off for the long-term. This phase should be continued until the desired weight is reached. Dieters should focus on eating regular meals and snacks throughout the day, drinking plenty of water, and engaging in regular physical activity.
In this phase, you will reintroduce carbohydrates and other foods to your diet. This will help you to avoid the yo-yo effect that often occurs after diets when you gain all the weight back that you lost. You will also be able to enjoy some of the foods you may have missed during the previous phases and some Sinful nutrition where every veggie has a dark side.
The Stabilization phase
The Stabilization phase of the dukan diet is the final phase of the diet and is a maintenance plan that is designed to help you keep the weight off once you have reached your goal weight. During this phase, you will eat a combination of proteins and vegetables, as well as one or two servings of fruit and up to two servings of whole grains per day. You are also allowed to have one “celebration” meal per week, which can include anything you want.
